Up, Up and Away

Who cranked up the rotation of the earth? The days are screaming by. That's Summer for you.

Let's see. Because I seem a bit too far past the point of constructing fully-formed, grammatically correct sentences, I'll paraphrase:

*Iced coffee (with cream and sugar of course) is a given

*Reading Camus (I seemed to have neglected that somewhere along the way and I'm feeling rather culturally illiterate).

*Top 10 Food Scenes in Children's Literature via Yarnstorm. And yes, it includes Anne of Green Gable's and that dastardly cordial.

*There are few things in life more enjoyable than playing the car radio very loudly and singing along very loudly (and disastrously) as you drive home on a warm summer's eve.

*D.I.Y: Design it Yourself - Power to the people!

*Dear CBC - I love you. Especially World of Mystery.

*A road trip to Portland meant a visit to A&C art supply store - a pretty phenomenal place with just about every art supply imaginable.

Bon Anniversaire

Another year older (and hopefully) wiser this weekend. The day called for breakfast with my aunt and grandparents, some reading and coffee shop sketching, a trip to Goodwill (got in touch with my inner Napoleon Dynamite), a picnic dinner before the storm hit and cake and coffee at Popover's (when the storm did hit). A visit from the uber-cute nieces and more coffee out on Sunday sealed the deal.

Now off to run. There's a 5K coming up and I refuse to be pulled over the finish line by my younger (and significantly more athletic) sister.

Oh, and have I waxed poetic here yet about inkjet fabric transfer paper? Staples, I love you and all your crazy paper products that tempt me.

Goodness Gracious

Alrighty. I put my money where my mouth is and took a shot at the This American Life theme.

Other nice things: All new "Project Runway" episodes | discovering an old, old ska mix-tape in my car (as oppossed to a long forgotten tupperware container *shudder* | nasturtiums from my sister's garden | homemade iced tea | finishing up a baby blanket for previously mentioned baby niece | the fact that the giant outdoor ant sculpture is no longer headless.

Midsummer Meanderings

Darn cold has left me out of commission. Or, as I prefer to say, "consumptive" because it sounds much more romantic than the common bug and conjures up images of bleak garrets and French heroines instead of Kleenix, cough drops, and a voice that sounds like a 12 year old boy.

So what's what? I've discovered the wonders of inkjet fabric transfers, mightily enjoyed a Twilight Zone marathon (thank you SciFi for rocking my July 4th), got to see my brand spankin' new baby niece and had a really nice barista give me an extra free shot in my mocha latte this week. Here's hoping you've had similarly entertaining fortnights.

Illustration Friday - Fierce

Fierce? Makes me think "Project Runway," every time.

The Little Mermaid

Some sketching with watercolor pencils.

Other randomness before I collapse into a puddle of exhaustion (albeit a puddle with a bowl of raspberry ice cream):

*The Rather Difficult Font Game via How About Orange (which is pretty darn swell)

*"Artisan Breads, Pastries, Cookies and Desserts" - Coming out in August, a cookbook full of recipes and techniques from the Beach Pea Baking Co. I worked here for a stint a few years back and a) the food is INCREDIBLE b) the employees and owners are some of the best people you could ever hope to work with. Can't wait for this one to come out.

*Cathy Cullis's melding of illustration and textiles is amazing
