Illustration Friday - Tales and Legends

"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves..."

I couldn't pass up on this Illustration Friday; "The Jabberwocky" came to mind, so I drew this at lunch today and added some texture in photoshop tonight (old book end papers for inquiring minds).

School's Out

Some more painting on a blustery, grey day; I am being fortified by coffee (Green Mountain coffee to be precise) and warm socks. My pilgrim forefathers would shudder at what a creme-puff I am.

Good reads and creative kick starts:

*Play Pen - New Children's Book Illustration: A great collection of children's book illustrators from the states and abroad. There's a wonderful range of work in here, some very familiar artists, and some I'd never seen before. Two thumbs up. Three if I had an extra to spare.

*Illustration Book Pro - A catalogue of Japanese illustrators. The work in here ranges from retro-kitsch inspired pieces to sophisticated fashion illustrations. A nice compendium.

*RPM Challenge - Think NaNoWriMo for musicians

Illustration Friday - Plain

Illustration Friday - Plain. Although the Amish style is very plain, there's a real beauty in that simplicity.

(Speaking of plain, I sketched this with watercolor pencils, with a bit of wash to intensify things. I usually spend some time tweaking things digitally, but decided to put this up as is.)

No math today?

Some closeups of something I'm working on. The drawing itself is pencil and has a light watercolor wash to build up values. I brought the piece into photoshop then to boost some of the colors, etc., etc.

Mambo!

Found a test image in the middle of some file organizing. More cat choreography. A one, two, three, four...

Precipitation

Speaking of which, it's snowing again. Maybe I'll just mention when it's not snowing.

*NPR has a spiffy archive of stories relating to children's literature that you can listen to here.

Weekending

Enough lazing about here. Off to the post office, errands, and other necessary evils.

Illustration Friday - 100%

100% Rat's Nest. It's going to take a lot of No-More-Tangles to fix this one.

A New Year

I'm thinking around May I'll finally remember to write "2008" on things. Hoping you're all having delightful New Years. The above is an illustration from several months ago that I never got around to posting. I have a backlog of images/photos to post, so that should be in order here.

2007 wasn't half bad; 2008 is looking pretty nice. My resolutions? Run a 5k, draw daily, and stay the course.

And I think that's a recipe for good things.

*Speaking of good things, Lovely Hearts 2 (a terrific art show) is right around the corner and you can find more info. on that over here at Artstream's website. The show benefits breast cancer research.
