The Pohutukawa Tree

I participated in the Mellow + Yellow Swap organized by Marta. My swap partner was Sarah at Favourito and she sent some pretty nifty things, including this pohutukawa tree tile. The color is really beautiful. I posted the rest of the package over on flickr.

*Helvetica - A Documentary

*Automata Galleria - I was looking at "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" and was pretty fascinated by the mention of the automata.

April Showers

Spring is like a teenager - alternately charming and moody. For the most part though, I'd say charming.

*Abby Carter's illustrations - The second I saw her work I remembered the Fresh Samantha bottles - great fruit juice and swell packaging.

*The Andromeda typeface has a fun look

Carte de Visite

It's April and it's snowing. It's becoming eerily like that episode of the Twilight Zone with the seriously off-kilter seasons.

*Wonderfully whimsical animation at Gout Blog.

*Shorpy - The 100 Year Old Photo Blog: It's like rummaging through the attic and finding a shoebox of photos, minus the smell of mothballs

*Annie French's work utilized some amazing textiles. More here.

Sketchbook

The new sketchbook I got last month has slightly thicker paper than I'm used to. It works great for watercolors!

I was listening to the episode 'The Super' from the archives of "This American Life," hence that woman with the espradilles, fur coat, and calling card. Now that's a pretty memorable get-up.

*I was reading today that Anne Sibley O'Brien is giving a talk on graphic novels at the NESCBWI confrence - neat-o.

*Ninja catapults. Yes.

A compass and a map

I was thinking of that Arcade Fire song, "I know a place where no cars go/I know a place where no ships go," which kind of got me thinking about adventures in incredible places. Sort of like the Bermuda Triangle or Atlantis, preferably without disappearing or sinking into the ocean. Gulp.
